Morgan Stanley Singapore Reaches Out to Community

Jul 17, 2010

Singapore —

Employees from Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) invited over 75 members of Parkinson's Disease Society (Singapore) (PDSS) on a flight up the Singapore Flyer - the world's largest observation wheel - in a charity event today.

Organized by summer interns from the Firm's Financial Control Group as a special project during their ten-week summer training program, the Singapore Flyer excursion is an extension of Morgan Stanley's annual Global Volunteer Month activities. Each year, the Firm dedicates June as Global Volunteer Month to underscore the Firm's commitment to employee volunteerism and to reflect its culture of giving back to local communities.

Today, around 50 Singapore based employees volunteered their time to participate in the outing.

The Singapore Flyer visit is a first for many of the Parkinson's patients, aged between 50 to 80. The first part of the program was a 30-minute flight to enjoy the panoramic views of Marina Bay, followed by a bonding session with the patients and volunteers playing charades and doing light stretching exercises. Lunch was served at the Sky Deck followed by a special session on managing talking functions delivered by a volunteer speech therapist.

"Morgan Stanley and its employees are committed to engaging with local communities in which we live, not just through corporate donations but by actively reaching out and dedicating volunteering time to people and communities," said Kapil Trikha, Chief Operating Officer of South East Asia for Morgan Stanley.

Throughout Global Volunteer Month, a series of community outreach activities have taken place in Singapore and around the world and Morgan Stanley employees have engaged in over 100,000 hours of volunteer work thus far.
