Placement and duration

The 10-week Summer Analyst Program is an opportunity to experience the culture and atmosphere of Morgan Stanley’s Bank resource Management (BRM) Division by taking on some of the responsibilities and functions of a Full-time Analyst for the summer period. Summer Analysts will join BRM, where they will undertake three rotations for the duration of the program. Summer Analysts will experience a range of roles within BRM whilst also gaining exposure to Institutional Equities and Fixed Income divisions.

Training program

The Program begins in June with one week of intensive classroom training. This will include an introduction to Morgan Stanley followed by division-specific training. In addition to rotations within BRM, Summer Analysts will receive broader exposure across all of Sales & Trading through weekly mini rotations, individual and group project assignments, senior management speaker series and networking events. All Summer Analysts will be assigned a dean and a buddy by way of support.

  • Pre-plan projects to improve the productivity and efficiency of the desk.
  • Shadow experienced Morgan Stanley employees to gain a broader understanding of the different functions of the desk.
  • Rotate on desks within the division and work closely with leading Analysts to support a sector team franchise by completing value-added projects.
  • Summer Analysts will gain exposure to the following desks within BRM:
    • Securities Lending (Global Markets): Borrow equity securities from the world’s largest lending institutions and work on lending functions to our hedge fund clients.
    • Fixed Income Client Financing: Work to provide liquidity to clients in fixed-income products, and analyse market rates and economic drivers, such as Central Bank operations and monetary policy.
    • Secured Funding: Use Repo and Stock Loan products to finance the Firm’s inventory of equity and fixed-income securities. Understand the Firm’s secured funding framework and governance and work with traders in executing secured funding trades within this framework.
    • Sales and Marketing: Evaluate client portfolios and perform analysis on business opportunities.
    • Counterparty Portfolio Management: Price and hedge credit risk associated with new OTC derivative transactions and analyse historical data to ensure risk is adequately covered.
    • Strategy: Work on BRM and Firm strategic initiatives and pursue current strategies.
    • Business Management: Understand balance sheet management, risk controls around all of BRM’s business areas, management of capital, and client analytics.

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • You are a penultimate-year undergraduate student with outstanding academic achievements, and on track to achieve a minimum of 2.1 honours degree or equivalent.
  • All degree disciplines accepted, but applicants must have a keen interest in the financial markets.
  • You have strong analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • You have the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and succinctly.
  • You thrive under pressure and in ever-changing situations.
