A DAY IN THE LIFE

I selected Firm Strategy & Execution…
to build my skills in investment banking and strategic consulting.

As a Strategy & Execution Analyst…  
I tackle day-to-day corporate finance and accounting tasks, as well as long-term strategy setting and individual business valuation. By working on consulting projects, I've developed advanced strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. I evaluate market trends, competitive forces and our strengths to seek new Firm opportunities. Key skills include quantitative reasoning, diligence and subject interest. I am called on to use my judgment in making decisions and recommendations that are important to the business of the Firm.

A typical day…
includes producing and editing presentation decks and owning my projects’ analytical components. I perform financial analyses, company valuations and due diligence and I assess market trends and competitive landscapes. Also, I evaluate business implications in response to regulation changes, and I contribute independent materials for discussions with senior management and the Board of Directors.

The best part of my job is…
making independent decisions and using my judgment to influence key decisions that drive change and influence Morgan Stanley’s strategic direction and profitability. My division is small, so I work directly with senior officers, giving me amazing exposure and opportunities to learn and network.

Many former analysts have gone on to…
other finance careers at the Firm including, positions with hedge funds, private equity firms or investment banks. Some go on to attend top business and graduate schools and others pursue consulting careers.
