A DAY IN THE LIFE
I selected Institutional Equities because...
I'm fascinated by the financial markets and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
As an Institutional Equity Summer Analyst...
I have confidence in my problem-solving and quantitative skills. The firm helped me develop
my execution of trading ideas and trained me to manage risk, build successful
long-term client relationships, and measure client revenue and profitability.
A typical day...
began at 6:45 a.m. with a catch-up on overnight news and global market activity.
I kept a running list of questions for analysts so that I could develop an
informed opinion. Throughout the day I divided my time between working with
members on the desk and on projects such as an options exchange analysis or creating
a tool to calculate realized volatility of individual stocks over specified
periods. In my research sales desk rotation, I learned to read the firm's research
and understand how it's pitched to clients and also pitched my own stocks to
the team. I attended events to hear management views and ask questions. After
market close, I reviewed the day with my manager and mentor and sometimes attended
Summer Program events.
The best part of my summer experience at Morgan Stanley was...
working at a number of different desks and networking with leaders across the
firm. The Summer Program was team-oriented, very challenging and intellectually
stimulating, and I learned more in those 10 weeks than I thought possible.
