As an Investment Banking Summer Associate...
I learned financial concepts and products and how to navigate the Firm. I didn't have a background in finance, but classroom training and the mentorship I received helped me learn quickly. I was exposed to senior bankers throughout the summer which was an incredible way to learn the business from the top down. Analytical and communication skills, along with attention to detail, were essential.

My role on the team...
included working alongside senior team members who oversaw the direction of a client proposal. I worked with an analyst to develop the presentation, and once we were hired, I helped manage workflow. I communicated with clients and the internal team, guided analysts on their financial modeling and drafting transaction documents and kept the deal on track. Alternately, I could have looked at new research on an assigned sector, working on a leveraged buyout model or drafting an offer letter to approach a public company. I learned time management and flexibility.

The best part of my summer experience at Morgan Stanley was...
working on a major company's IPO. As a junior deal team member, I learned about the complexities of underwriting one of the largest IPOs to date. The work was demanding and varied: One day I'd prepare financial models, the next I'd be at a site visit. I was always challenged to learn more, and it was very rewarding to be part of this historic transaction that reintroduced a great company to the public markets.
