A DAY IN THE LIFE
I selected a career in Investment Banking...
because I enjoy exploring different businesses. I like the thoughtful, methodical
nature of the work, allowing me to consider all angles and evaluate a range
of solutions rather than rushing into a decision.
As an Investment Banking Summer Analyst...
I developed an expertise in corporate finance modeling and gained exposure
to a wide range of product and industry sectors. While I typically worked on
corporate finance topics, I also learned about high-level industry themes and
specific business sectors. I needed to pay attention to detail and apply intense
analysis and reasoning skills.
A typical day...
was spent supporting various project teams to provide financial and data analysis,
including building models, gathering and synthesizing equity research, and
developing presentation decks.
The best part of my job was...
the level of responsibility and learning. I provided in-depth analysis and
was expected to walk senior team members through my modeling and valuation
assumptions. I spoke directly with clients, learned new businesses, shared
my views on the most impactful ways to present information and contributed
to marketplace-shaping deals.
The best part of my summer experience
was...
learning from the first-, second- and third-year analysts in the group. There
was a strong sense of camaraderie, and I formed lasting friendships. The entire
team was focused on the development and success of the Summer Analysts, and
as a result, we got a very real sense of what it's like to be an investment
banker.
