A DAY IN THE LIFE
Before business school I worked…
on the buy side—I wanted to move to a diversified investment bank to
broaden my skills.
I chose Morgan Stanley to launch my postgraduate
career because…
I wanted to start the next phase of my career at a premier, global firm. I
was seeking access to industry leaders and exposure to new ideas and situations.
Most of my colleagues started their careers—and today remain with—Morgan
Stanley. This is rare on Wall Street and speaks volumes about the firm.
As
a GCM Associate…
I navigate debt issuers through rocky periods and execute challenging deals
in strong markets. We’re often in the process of executing deals and the markets
often determine our fate. It’s essential to be proactive and
comfortable with analysis, decision making, and problem solving from the start.
My role on the team is…
different every day. I’m usually working on numerous projects simultaneously,
so the day can include analyzing a company's capital structure, using my experience
and judgment to figure out ways the company can refinance and maintain flexibility,
talking with the syndicate desk to vet an idea, going to client meetings to discuss
a new idea, introducing a new deal to the sales force or negotiating a structure
for an in-process deal.
My greatest achievement at Morgan Stanley so far…
was acting as the key client contact on a company’s inaugural debt offering.
It was the company’s first experience raising public debt—when the
treasurer had a question about the deal’s mechanics or performance, he
called me directly.
