The Investment Management Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program consisting of one week of training with all Investment Management Summer Analysts and nine weeks working within a specific group. During the 10-week program, Summer Analysts experience the culture and atmosphere of Morgan Stanley by performing a role similar to a Full-Time Analyst.

Training program

The training program consists of a curriculum designed to equip Summer Analysts with the fundamental skills needed in order to be successful in IM. The program is one week long and includes a Firm-wide orientation, business overviews, professional development, technical training and networking events. A speaker series is also a part of training, and runs throughout the 10 week program.

Responsibilities

Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM)'s Fixed Income Group strategies cover a range of sectors, geographies, durations and credit qualities, running the risk/return gamut to meet the current needs of institutional investors.   Our Group invests in Corporate Bonds/Loans (both investment grade and high-yield), Structured Products (residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities, asset-backed securities), Government Bonds (US and international sovereign bonds) and Emerging Market Bonds (local and hard currency sovereign and corporate bonds.) The team manages a broad range of Global, Euro, Emerging Market and US based strategies, with almost $71 billion in assets under management and supervision at September 2018. Over 67 investment professionals are located throughout the world in major fixed income markets providing not only local expertise but also a macroeconomic view of the markets.

The IM Fixed Income team is looking for Summer Analysts to support the group in several areas, including:

  • Researching and analyzing financial information relating to specific companies and investments
  • Creating reports and summaries from the analyzed financial data
  • Conducting company and investment level due diligence activities and developing financial models and investment committee materials
  • Evaluating existing investment portfolios and recommending changes in investment plans
  • Keeping up to date with market developments, new investment products and all other areas that can affect the markets, such as movements in the economies of relevant countries

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • Current Junior (class of 2021) in a 4 year bachelor’s degree program with superior academic performance
  • Interest in financial services industry and equity investing
  • Advanced accounting, financial analysis and quantitative analysis skills
  • Experience with macroeconomics and financial modeling
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and interact well with others
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and a team player
  • Superior level of attention to detail
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments at once and meet associated deadlines important to success
