Our Summer Analyst program, based in Shanghai, is designed to provide a realistic view of what we do by having the Summer Analyst assume the functions of a Full-time Analyst for 10 weeks. You will be working on a variety of Real Estate Acquisition and Asset Management activities. Along the way, you will obtain a strong foundation in the basic skills of financial analysis and deal execution as well as an understanding of real estate fundamentals in the markets we cover.

This intensive 10-week program includes a Firmwide orientation to Morgan Stanley’s businesses and division specific training. Your training will continue throughout the summer with structured learning sessions run by senior executives. Similarly, you will have many opportunities to integrate with peers and senior colleagues through a series of networking, social, charity and mentoring events.

The work is challenging, and the Summer Analyst is encouraged to roll up his / her sleeves, dig into financial statements, understand basics of real estate and participate in live deals. Assignments vary depending upon group placement, but typically include:

  • Conducting research about a specific real estate market or asset class.
  • Analyzing financial and operating information.
  • Building models to depict projected financial results and investment returns.
  • Developing internal investment memorandums.
  • Participating actively in the execution of acquisition or asset management initiatives.


  • You are a university student in your penultimate year of study or first-year Master’s student with outstanding academics. Students must graduate between December 2018 and July 2019.
  • You have a demonstrated interest in real estate and a basic understanding of the sector dynamics in the Greater China region.
  •  You are a team player with a strong work ethic who thrives with confidence when faced with intellectual challenges.
  • You have strong analytical skills and the ability to grasp complex data, manage multiple projects and provide complicated financial analysis.
  • You have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to form effective working relationships through collaboration, strive for excellence and exhibit the highest ethical standards.
  • Fluency in English and in Mandarin is required.


Morgan Stanley Shanghai

Morgan Stanley opened its Shanghai office in 1994 and today provides a wide range of financial services to domestic and international clients. The city is also a support centre for the firm’s Technology & Data, Operations and Risk Management functions. In 2010, the Firm established its China headquarters in Shanghai and in 2011 formed Morgan Stanley Huaxin Securities, a securities joint venture focusing on China’s domestic capital markets.
