Placement and duration

The Investment Management Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program consisting of one week of training with all Investment Management Summer Analysts and nine weeks working within a specific group. During the 10-week program, Summer Analysts experience the culture and atmosphere of Morgan Stanley by performing a role similar to a Full-Time Analyst.

Morgan Stanley Infrastructure (MSI) is a global leader in private equity / infrastructure investing, with teams in New York, London, Hong Kong, Mumbai and Melbourne, and representative offices in Houston and Amsterdam. MSI pursues a global, diversified, value added strategy (developed markets focus). The MSI investing platform manages approximately $ 6 billion on behalf of institutional investors around the world. Key industry sectors for investing consist of utilities (electric, gas and water), operationally complex transportation assets (airports, seaports and city wide parking systems), oil and gas midstream (interstate pipelines, gathering and processing and gas storage), unregulated power generation (conventional and renewables) and water projects.

Training program

Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s training program consists of a curriculum designed to equip Summer Analysts with the fundamental skills they need in order to be successful. The program is one week long and includes a Firmwide orientation, business overviews, professional development, technical training and networking events. A speaker series is also a part of the overall training and is run throughout the duration of the program.

Responsibilities

The Infrastructure team is looking for Summer Analysts to support the group in several areas of infrastructure private equity investing including:

  • Producing investment memoranda on acquisition opportunities
  • Financial modeling and valuation on companies and assets
  • Coordinating with advisors and consultants on due diligence items
  • Background analyses for investment theses
  • Monitoring the performance of portfolio companies
  • Other investment related tasks (tracking prospective deals, analyzing currency hedging, negotiating confidentiality agreements, etc.)

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • Current Junior (class of 2019) in a 4 year bachelor’s degree program with superior academic performance
  • Interest in financial services industry
  • Previous work in Investment Banking or Private Equity preferred
  • Experience with M&A work, financial modeling and valuation (DCF, NPV, IRR)
  • Ability to learn quickly and interact well with others
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and a team player
  • Superior level of attention to detail
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments at once and meet associated deadlines important to success
