Placement and duration

The Investment Management Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program consisting of one week of training and nine weeks working within a specific IM group. The majority of opportunities are in our New York offices, but there may also be select positions in suburban Philadelphia. During the 10-week program, Summer Analysts experience the work, culture and atmosphere of Morgan Stanley by performing a role similar to a Full-Time Analyst.

The Strategic Initiatives Group reports to Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s (MSIM’s) executive management and works cross-functionally with business and support groups within MSIM globally and across the Firm. The team provides centralized leadership, planning, and execution on key initiatives identified across various disciplines including:

  • Process re-engineering
  • Industry-driven initiatives
  • Revenue opportunities
  • Vendor analysis/management
  • Investment systems enhancements and implementations

Training program

Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s training program consists of a curriculum designed to equip Summer Analysts with the fundamental skills they need in order to be successful. The program is one week long and includes a Firmwide orientation, business overviews, professional development, technical training and networking events. A speaker series is also a part of the overall training and is run throughout the duration of the program.

Responsibilities

The Strategic Initiatives Group is looking for a Summer Analyst to:

  • Help coordinate and participate in cross-functional settings to build consensus and to execute on agreed deliverables
  • Assess business challenges and develop recommendations for presentation to key stakeholders
  • Design project plans to meet short and long-term goals and deadlines
  • Develop presentations to report progress and status for senior management
  • Work directly with the global team to identify and develop strategies to improve upon existing business practices

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • Current Junior (class of 2019) in a four year bachelor’s degree program with superior academic performance
  • Strong interest in the financial services or management consulting industry and:
  • Strong track record of academic excellence and achievement
  • Well-rounded with outstanding organizational and analytical capabilities
  • Enthusiastic with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to summarize complex problems and detailed analysis with clarity and brevity
  • Excellent presentation skills including verbal and written communication
  • Commitment to deliver the highest quality work product with close attention to detail
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to prioritize and efficiently plan for various short- and long-term deliverables
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
