Placement and duration

The 10-week Summer Associate Program is an opportunity for MBA students to experience the culture and atmosphere of Morgan Stanley by taking on the responsibilities and functions of Full-time Associates. You may work alongside Full-time Associates and senior bankers on a wide range of transactions and business development initiatives from all areas of Investment Banking. The Program gives you a strong foundation in the basic skills of financial problem solving, negotiation and execution, and experience of marketing the Firm's products and services effectively.

Training program

This intensive 10-week program includes a Firmwide orientation to Morgan Stanley's businesses, followed by four days of formal classroom training in our Investment Banking Division (IBD). Your training will continue throughout the summer with structured learning sessions conducted by senior executives. Similarly, you will have many opportunities to integrate with peers and senior staff through a series of networking, social, charity and mentoring events.

Your projects may involve a merger, an IPO or financing a new venture. You may participate in a competitive auction process to divest a business, identify potential strategic acquisitions targets, organize a road show for potential investors in a major new equity offering or advise your team on how to tackle a complex piece of analysis. The roles and responsibilities vary by department but may include:

  • Assisting in the execution of corporate finance transactions.
  • Performing financial analysis, strategic business analysis and detailed industry research.
  • Contributing to team discussions and client meetings.
  • Providing rapid and accurate market judgments to colleagues and clients.
  • Preparing and delivering client presentations in a clear and compelling manner.

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • You are a first-year MBA student with outstanding academic standing.
  • You are a team player with a strong work ethic who thrives with confidence in intellectual challenges.
  • You have strong analytical skills and the ability to grasp complex data, manage multiple projects, provide complicated financial analysis and develop appropriate corporate finance solutions.
  • You have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to form effective working relationships through collaboration, strive for excellence and exhibit the highest ethical standards.
  • Fluency in English is required. Asian languages are preferred.
