Placement and duration

The Full-time Associate Investment Banking Program generally starts in either the spring or summer, and is designed to provide graduate students a rare opportunity to work with clients onfinancial solutions including Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), capital raising and other Investment Banking Division (IBD)-related activities. Associates will develop analytical, quantitative and interpersonal skills for a potentially successful and rewarding career as an investment banker in Japan.

Training program

All new Associates will participate in both a Firmwide orientation, covering the Firm's business and the role of associates who liaise closely with officers and supervise analysts, and an IBD-specific program. The curriculum includes accounting, business overview speaker series, and technical and other skills. Associates will have the opportunity to network with peers, officers and senior managers through team building sessions and other organized events.

Responsibilities

Associates are assigned to a specific industry or product group to gain in-depth exposure. Your projects may involve a merger, an IPO or financing a new venture. You may lead a competitive auction process to divest a business, identify potential strategic acquisition targets, organize a road show for potential investors in a major new equity offering or advise your team on how to tackle a complex piece of analysis. The role and responsibilities vary by group/specific projects, and may include:

  • Managing and assisting in the execution of corporate finance transactions and/or M&A transactions.
  • Performing financial analysis, strategic business analysis and detailed industry research.
  • Contributing to team discussions and client meetings.
  • Providing rapid and accurate market judgments to colleagues and clients.
  • Preparing and delivering client presentations in a clear and compelling manner.

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • You are a graduate student in your final year of study, preferably with a concentration in Finance.
  • You have at least two years of business experience.
  • You have strong communication skills and are fluent in both English and Japanese.
  • You are analytical, quantitative, insightful, adaptive, a quick learner, a leader, a team player, a multi-tasker, and possess strong work ethics and a positive attitude.
  • You are motivated to succeed in the investment banking industry.
