Placement and duration

The Institutional Equity Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program consisting of one week of classroom training, followed by multiple rotations across the Equity division. This allows Summer Analysts to gain a broad understanding of the various roles that an Analyst can play within the Division. The Program features a senior management speaker series, desk teach-ins, networking events, community service, a performance review, and a robust mentorship program. Summer Analysts receive on-the-job training and benefit from working alongside experienced professionals on meaningful projects.

Training program

Summer Analysts begin with a one-day orientation where they are introduced to the Firm's businesses, learn about what it is like to be an employee at Morgan Stanley and network with Summer Analysts throughout the Firm. They then attend divisional specific training where they learn core skills essential to asuccessful summer. The curriculum includes daily market updates, business-specific overviews, and basic productand technical training

Responsibilities

  • Sales: Work alongside more experienced employees to understand client relationship dynamics, develop andpresent investment ideas, sell and cross-sell the Firm's products and learn how to represent the Firm with clients on important business issues.
  • Trading: Develop and execute trading ideas and analysis, and support all aspects of the market-making trade execution process, from providing research analytics on trades to relative value analysis.
  • Structuring: Use innovative and solutions-based approaches to designing both investment and risk management products across all asset classes.
  • Strategy: Analyze market fundamentals and liaise with researchers to develop investment recommendations for internal and external clients.
  • Analytics: Provide quantitative and qualitative metrics and analytics around client revenue and profitability to drive internal business and client strategy; work with clients to efficiently manage their commission dollars by creating increased transparency around the services that clients value.

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

Summer Analyst Program

  • You are pursuing an undergraduate degree (junior) or a Master’s degree with a graduation date of December 2018 or Spring 2019.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • You have basic knowledge of and a keen interest in finance.
  • You are analytical, adaptive, possess a strong work ethic, are a leader yet team player, as well as a multi-tasker.
  • You possess strong oral and written communication skills.
