Placement and duration

The 10-week Operational Risk Management Summer Analyst Program in London isan opportunity to experience the culture and atmosphere of Morgan Stanley's Risk Management Division taking onthe responsibilities and functions of an Analyst. Operational Risk Management Summer Analysts will be assigned to a specific team within Operational Risk, working on a range of projects.

Training program

Training begins in June with one week of intensive classroom training, including anintroduction to Morgan Stanley, followed by ongoing education throughout the duration of the internship. There will be a senior management speaker series, and assigned mentor support, as well as networking events.

  • Meet with the Business Unit (Front Office) and control groups to identify significant Firmwide Operational Risk themes and trends.
  • Review and analyse data and metrics related to Operational Risk from various sources to identify themes and trends.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to enable senior management to make decisions to manage and monitor Operational Risk.
  • Investigate ad hoc Operational Risk incidents.
  • Undertake analysis on particular Operational Risk themes including, but not limited to, measuring exposures resulting from particular operational risk scenarios.

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • You are in your penultimate year of study, working towards a degree ideally in Finance, Accounting (or other business related fields) or Mathematics (or other quantitative subject); applications from students in their penultimate year of study in another discipline are also welcomed, provided that they can demonstrate good numerical and analytical skills.
  • You are numerate, with strong data analysis skills.
  • You demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • You demonstrate an ability to work on assignments in a dynamic environment, analyse information, distill relevant facts and reach logical conclusions.
  • You demonstrate a strong interest in financial services and risk management.
