Summer Analyst

Placement and duration

The Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program beginning in April. The curriculum includes an orientation to the Firm, senior management speaker seminars, active involvement in audits and projects, and social and networking events to build the Interns’ professional networks. The Program provides broad exposure to various functions across Internal Audit, as well as in-depth exposure to their specific function like Data Analytics, Quant, Technology Audit. The program also includes peer mentors and community service events.

Training program

The Summer Analyst program includes a Firmwide orientation to Morgan Stanley’s businesses and division specific training. The Program typically features a management speaker series, product area training, networking events, community service, a performance review and a mentorship program. Summer Analysts receive continued on-the-job training throughout the Program, allowing them to acquire an in-depth understanding of the role a Full-time Analyst can play.

Responsibilities will vary depending on your role, and may include the following:

  • Develop a working knowledge of business terminology and basic auditing standards.
  • Understand risks and controls that require testing and aid in the construction of the Risk and Control Matrix.
  • Quant Audit - Carrying out detailed quantitative audit of Market Risk, Credit Risk and Operational Risk model development and validation processes.
  • Technology Audit – Gain an understanding of the business units under review (e.g., policies and procedures, roles and responsibilities, systems and processes, organization and controls). Test controls over applications and system infrastructure, including those over data accuracy, completeness and processing, systems development, change management, data security and entitlements, production management and technology governance
  • Data Analytics - Understanding requirements, identifying tables and fields and writing queries. Will be required to use data manipulation/mining concepts like table joins, merges, filters, summary, grouping, etc
  •  Assist in the creation of the process, risk and control (PRC) matrix, and upload to the audit workflow tool.
  • Assist in creating and executing control tests and clearly document test results

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • You are a high calibre post graduate student, majoring in Financial Engineering, Business Analytics, Engineering or other relevant areas
  • You are a team player and excellent communicator.
  • You have advanced technical, analytical, quantitative and project management skills.
  • You are client-service oriented.
  •  You are able to multi-task with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate and work on multiple assignments while meeting timelines.
