Placement and duration

The Financial Control Group (FCG) is responsible for overseeing the accounting, financial and regulatory reporting for the Firm. FCG prepares external financial reports for public filings and regulators. For internal reporting FCG, along with Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA), summarizes, plans and forecasts the organization’s financial position, including income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of future revenues, expenses and earnings. FCG is comprised of Business Unit Controllers, Legal Entity Controllers, Regulatory and Planning groups, Valuation Review, etc.

The Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program beginning in May, with the exception of Hong Kong where programs commencing in June, that offers an intensive hands-on introduction to Finance at Morgan Stanley.

Training program

The Summer Analyst program includes a Firmwide orientation to Morgan Stanley’s businesses and division specific training. Your training will continue throughout the summer with structured learning sessions run by senior executives. Similarly, you will have many opportunities to integrate with peers and senior colleagues through a series of networking, social, charity and mentoring events.

Responsibilities

The main focus of the role will be to understand and carry out assigned process, e.g. P&L validation for Equity, Fixed Income & Commodity business, Legal Entity reporting, Ledger control and maintenance, Liquidity reporting etc. This is a high profile role, which requires the individual to work closely with colleagues across various functions and the Business Unit in onshore regions:

The Role in detail:

  • Understand the Businesses supported including the strategy, products and inherent risks.
  • Understand the Risk & Reporting Systems, and contribute to enhancing the control environment.
  • Daily and Month end reconciliation, substantiation and analysis of financial activities and their discussion with onshore teams.
  • Projects involving process enhancements and standardizations.
  • Partnering with various non- FCG functions like Business Units and Operations.
  • Presentation to vertical Management on assigned process and project.

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • Strong academic background
  • Must be highly motivated with the commitment required to consistently meet goals
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong MS Excel skills is a must
  • Basic understanding & interest in Financial Products essential
  • Excellent organizational, communication and relationship management skill
