Placement and duration

Full-time Analysts will be placed in one of the following three teams within Finance: Institutional Securities Group (ISG) Finance, Corporate Reporting & Analysis, and Regulatory Reporting. Placements are communicated to analysts prior to their start date and are based upon business needs, feedback throughout the interview process and the analysts' interests.

Training program

In addition to daily on-the-job training, analysts join a two to three-week training program in Tokyo with other local new hires. The training includes both classroom and project-based teamwork to provide analysts with business, technical and professional knowledge. The training curriculum includes an orientation to the Firm, an overview of the securities industry, product knowledge, accounting training, senior speaker seminars and team presentations.

Responsibilities vary depending on placement within the following three teams:

  • Institutional Securities Group (ISG) Finance: Produce daily Profit & Loss (P&L) income statements for Institutional Sales & Trading and Investment Banking businesses, and communicate the specific P&L drivers and balance sheet usage; support the generation of business-level balance sheets; and support new businesses from an accounting perspective.
  • Corporate Reporting & Analysis: Provide value-add services and financial reporting to management; partner with and advise internal clients to help them gain insight into cost drivers to better manage their businesses.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Review and analyze Morgan Stanley's books and records to ensure strong guardianship over the Firm's monthly financial reports; prepare and submit monthly income statement and balance sheet reporting for the Firm.

Qualifications/ Skills/ Requirements

  • You are interested in Accounting or studying for USCPA.
  • You are fluent in both Japanese and English.
  • You are skilled in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and Access preferred.
  • You have a strong motivation to learn; are resourceful and able to take initiative.
  • You synthesize information, distill relevant facts, and reach logical conclusions.
  • You are a team player and an excellent communicator.
