Morgan Stanley Employees Honor Veterans with #22Pushups Challenge

Morgan Stanley firms participate in the #22Pushups Challenge to honor those who have served and to raise awareness about veteran suicide prevention.

Purchase, NY – Morgan Stanley employees were “pushed” to their physical limits in June as they performed thousands of push-ups to honor our military veterans and raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention.

The effort was a part of the #22Pushups campaign launched by #22KILL, a global movement working towards raising awareness of the veteran’s suicide epidemic currently plaguing our country, and educating the public on prevalent mental health issues.

In 2013, Honor Courage Commitment Inc. learned about the staggering statistic that an average 22 veterans are lost by suicide daily. The movement hopes is to accumulate 22 million push-ups worldwide in effort to bridge the gap between veterans and civilians, and build an overall community of support.

Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, #22Pushup Challenge

Morgan Stanley offices from around the country participated in the challenge.

During a “Brain Date” (a one-on-one meeting of knowledge-sharing) at the Women’s Leadership Summit, Cetera Wright, Wealth Management Branch Analyst, met up with Wendy Murphy, Financial Advisor and Council Representative, and they came up with the Morgan Stanley #22day Push-Up Challenge. After 22 days, Morgan Stanley all together has totaled 21,649 push-ups across 66 complexes and individuals to help #22KILL’s mission of awareness and empowerment, and they have had fun while doing it.

Morgan Stanley Branch #115 in Visalia, California especially came prepared for the event. Branch Manager, Greg Todd, fully supported and participated in the #22KILL Push-Up Challenge. To make the challenge a little more fun, Greg agreed to match every employee in the office’s push-up numbers. The office completed a total of 174 push-ups done by several people – meaning Greg completed a whopping 376 push-ups on his own. An impressive total of 550 push-ups to support the veterans by Branch #115!

Morgan Stanley Executive Director Jennifer Westphal, one of the chief organizers of Morgan Stanley’s involvement, said of the effort, “It is inspiring to see all the support towards such an important topic. These women and men, and their families, have given so much. It would be great to give back to them.”
