Magical wonderment all around. Smiles on every face. The chance to teach children business values. Morgan Stanley Wealth Management’s New York office holds an annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day and this year hosted more than 80 children for a fun-filled day of activities and learning. The excitement was palpable.
Every morning as parents leave for work, two of the most common questions their kids have: “What do you do all day? Why do you have to go to work?” For Morgan Stanley employees, Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day gives them the chance to show rather than tell.
“One of the firm’s core values is giving back, and most of the events that we have are about giving back to the community,” explains Ben Firestein, Managing Director, Complex Manager. “One of the main themes of the event wasn’t just to have fun, it was to teach the children how to help others and give back to causes that are important to them.”
Face painting, balloon animals and a cotton candy machine were atypical in the workplace but the silly fun was supplemented by exercises to build a business.
Partnering with Morgan Stanley for the event was Team Kids, a non-profit organization with a mission to empower kids to change the world. CEO Julie Hadash says showing children the value of hard work is one of the key ways to help children develop and achieve their dreams.
Why does Morgan Stanley believe this event is so important? Geri Mehu-Moore, Executive Director, Branch Manager says, “Morgan Stanley is committed to not just only our employees, but we’re committed to their families. And this really shows our commitment to them.”
