Chief Legal Officer Donald G. Kempf, Jr. to Retire After Successor Is Named

Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MWD) confirmed today that
Donald G. Kempf Jr., the Firm's chief legal officer, has announced his intention to retire
from the Firm. Mr. Kempf, who has served as chief legal officer since 1999, will remain
in that position until a successor is named and with the firm until an orderly transition is
completed.
Morgan Stanley Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Philip J. Purcell thanked Mr.
Kempf for his "strong leadership and distinguished service to the firm."
Mr. Kempf said: "It has been an honor and a privilege for me to have served Morgan
Stanley as chief legal officer for the past six years."
