  • November - Morgan Stanley serves as an advisor and provides US$2.5 billion in bridge financing to CF Industries (CF) for its takeover bid for rival Terra Industries, creating the largest publicly traded nitrogen producer in the world
  • March - Morgan Stanley advises Suncor Energy Inc. on its merger with Petro-Canada, an integrated oil and gas company, uniting two of Canada's biggest oil companies under the Suncor name, with a combined equity value of US$39.2 billion and aggregate value of US$47.7 billion
2006
  • July - Morgan Stanley acts as Advanced Micro Devices' exclusive advisor in its acquisition of ATI Technologies for US$5.4 billion, creating the world's second largest semiconductor company. The deal is to be financed, in part, with US$2.5 billion in debt provided by Morgan Stanley
2005
  • December - Morgan Stanley advises Placer Dome in its agreement to merge with Barrick Gold in a deal valued at US$10.4 billion. The combined company will become the largest gold producer in the world, with operations in North and South America, Africa, Australia and Asia
  • June - Morgan Stanley advises Canada Pension Plan Investment Board in its acquisition (along with Alberta Investment Management and Brookfield Properties) of all shares of O&Y Properties Corp. and 100% of O&Y Real Estate Investment Trust. At approximately US$1.6 billion, the transaction represents the largest office-sector deal in Canadian history
