Morgan Stanley Smith Barney is seeking eager, hardworking individuals to participate in the 2010 Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Analyst Program. Candidates must be in their senior year of a four-year accredited college or university majoring in business, economics or another relevant field. Qualified candidates must show a keen interest in the financial services industry.  Relevant work or internship experience is strongly desired. The program is based in our Westchester, New York headquarters.

Markets Group Program Details
The Markets Group track is a competitive 24 month non-rotational program. The Markets Group area of the business includes Analyst opportunities in Fixed Income Sales & Trading, Equity Sales, Structured Investment Sales, Business Strategy, and Risk & Infrastructure. The Analyst program kicks off in early July with a comprehensive orientation and training program designed to help Analysts become acclimated to the firm.

FID Sales and Trading:

  • Facilitate Fixed Income transactions within the Branch system and field inquires from the Financial Advisors.
  • Create, pitch, and promote sales ideas alongside the product areas to market to Financial Advisors.
  • Assume responsibility for marketing of one product area, with potential to travel to the individual branches to assist with marketing.

Equity Sales:

  • Facilitate Equity transactions within the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Branch system and field inquires from the Financial Advisors.
  • Review client equity holdings.
  • Recap, consolidate and comment on internal and external equity analysts' calls/reports and report opinions to the field.

Business Strategy:

  • Produce and present business valuations surrounding new initiatives, current business procedures, and financials.
  • Coordinate and execute uniform monthly/quarterly reviews for firm-level management and all sales divisions.
  • Conduct competitive analysis of various components of the Capital Markets business versus competitors.

Risk/Infrastructure:

  • Monitor sales and trading operations and front to back reviews of the sales and trading functions.
  • Analyze trade and process flows.
  • Analyze and review current processes, and through conclusions suggest improvements and potential business enhancements / solutions.

Structured Investments:

  • Relay current information and work directly with senior management, sales, trading, and internal clients.
  • Responsible for current knowledge across multiple product areas and asset classes, i.e., Commodities, FX, Fixed Income, Equities.
  • Participate in the development of the Structured Investments business.
  • Create and deliver marketing materials tailored to meet various risk-return objectives.

Requirements

Requirements include an undergraduate degree with a relevant major such as business or economics, a minimum 3.2 GPA, and a keen interest in the financial services industry. A resume that shows work experience in a related field is also required.

Selection Process

Depending on your school, interviews may take place on campus or at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. Interviews are conducted by senior managers, former Analyst Program participants, and Human Resources. Successful candidates can expect two to three rounds of interviews.
