GWMG Operations Group - North America
The Global Wealth Management Group Analyst Program is a competitive 24 month non-rotational program. The Analyst program kicks off in early July with a comprehensive orientation and training program designed to help Analysts become acclimated to the firm. Morgan Stanley’s GWMG Operations Division is responsible for post- execution trade processing and internal controls from trade entry through settlement custody and client reporting. Operations is also responsible for the support of proprietary and customer transactions of both primary and secondary trading in listed and over-the-counter transactions in commodities, equity and fixed income securities, and structured derivatives. We support our individual investor clients, Financial Advisor and branch networks through client service centers. Additional products and Retirement Services supported by GWMG Operations include insurance, mutual funds, alternative investments, and personal trusts. Opportunities are available to work closely with colleagues in the Managed Money, Accounts and Services, Capital Markets, Insurance and Planning Solutions, Retirement Solutions, the Private Wealth Management Group, and National Sales business units to process complex transactions, solve operational problems, respond to business issues and client needs, assist in risk management, conduct revenue analysis and participate in Firm re-engineering projects. What do Operations Analysts do? Analysts are engaged in daily operations activities and also have opportunities to work on a variety of special projects. Specific job responsibilities vary between departments but may include desk/trade support, financial advisor an/or branch support, custody services, client service and relationship management, metrics analysis and reporting, transaction exception handling, settlement and reconciliation, risk management and control, new account and client reporting, and banking and cash services. Analysts are also engaged in strategic projects such as developing, producing, and analyzing operational performance metrics to help identify areas in need of improvement. Various project roles provide opportunities to understand the front-to-back business processes and supporting technical infrastructure to engineer solutions that enable growth of new products/services or reduce costs and risk. Requirements Requirements include an undergraduate degree with a relevant major such as Business, Economics, or Industrial Engineering, a minimum 3.0 GPA, and a keen interest in the financial services industry. A resume that shows work experience in a related field is also required. Selection Process Depending on your school, interviews may take place on campus or at Morgan Stanley. Interviews are conducted by senior managers, former Analyst Program participants, and Human Resources. Successful candidates can expect two to three rounds of interviews. Job Responsibilities As a business analyst, you are responsible for defining a complete business process and presenting it to the GWM Technology team. As a software developer, the summer analyst creates scripts to automate the testing of functions within the financial advisor workstation.
