The GWMG IT Analyst Program, held in Candidates will undergo two rotations of 9 months each, while simultaneously undergoing technical and professional development training. The program also offers an orientation to Morgan Stanley, an overview of the Global Wealth Management Business, exposure to senior manager, and an enriching mentor program. Based on skill set, Analysts will be placed in one of the following areas: software development, business analysis or process management. Morgan Stanley’s GWMG Information Technology division is responsible for the design, development, delivery and support of the technical solutions behind over 30 GWMG products and services. These technical solutions are used by employees (business unit managers, operations staff and more than 8,000 financial advisors) as well as clients (more than 2 million individual investors, small and midsize businesses). Our employees have deployed a technical infrastructure that connects more than 450 domestic retail locations, support a series of public internet sites, and internally built one of the industry's leading financial advisor workstations. We work with large scale databases such as DB2 and SQL Server, proprietary and non-proprietary messaging software, a broad variety of vendor products, numerous financial exchanges and regulatory entities, and programming languages ranging from .Net and Java to Cobol and VB.Net. Launching Your Career The Technology Training Program offers two tracks aligned with your specific background and interests: Software Developer/Designer Track:For computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and related technology majors with an interest in application development. Analysts entering this track should be comfortable with at least one programming language on the windows platform (C/C++ with WIN32/MFC, .NET platform languages, Java with AWT/Swing, etc.) and should possess hands-on experience with any web application development framework (ASP, JSP, PHP, etc.). Analysts should possess a good understanding of object oriented concepts and should possess hands-on experience in one object oriented language: C# Java or C++. A basic knowledge of relational databases with hands-on experience with any one dialect of SQL/database product is a plus. Alternately, the Analyst should be competent with rapid prototyping, with the help of HTML editors/graphics programs/prototyping tools such as iRise, etc. Analysts should also have experience with web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Knowledge of creating graphics (logos, buttons, backgrounds, etc.) for the web using tools such as Photoshop/ Paint is necessary. An ability to conceptualize interface solutions for web applications is a must. Business Analyst and Process Management Track: For any majors with an interest in Technology. Analysts entering this track should have an interest in documenting IT solution requirements (business, functional, and/or technical) and should possess strong technical knowledge. Analysts should possess the ability to assist in gathering requirements from point of capture through system and user acceptance testing. Ability to understand, dissect and create current and future state process flows is required. Alternately, Analysts will be required to work closely with Software Development process owners to define and document detailed procedures and related templates. Analysts will implement, advertise, train and support process users on the defined procedures. In addition, periodic audits will be performed to ensure process is being followed and feedback gathered to fine-tune procedures. An overview of this program’s objectives and how you can benefit Summer Analyst Program Details The Global Wealth Management Group Summer Analyst Program is a competitive 10-week program. Placements in the Products Group portion of the business include areas such as Alternative Investments, Mutual Funds, Banking & Lending and National Sales Administration. There are also positions available in the Markets Group, Private Wealth Management, GWMG Operations Group and GWMG Information Technology. Job Responsibilities As a business analyst, you are responsible for defining a complete business process and presenting it to the GWM Technology team. As a software developer, the summer analyst creates scripts to automate the testing of functions within the financial advisor workstation.
