Morgan Stanley’s Sales & Trading Analyst class is treated as a top priority because we know it will produce the future generation of leaders for the firm. Analysts have the opportunity to develop and master the analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills they will need to succeed. The division’s flat organizational structure and open trading floor allow Analysts opportunities to collaborate with more experienced colleagues and learn from senior Sales & Trading professionals. The fast-paced, intense environment requires an aptitude for quickly analyzing and interpreting complex information. The Analyst Program in Sales & TradingHow the program works and the day-to-day experience you can expect Morgan Stanley’s Sales & Trading division has a two-year Analyst Program. While the program is for two years, many of our outstanding Analysts are asked to stay on to continue a full career at Morgan Stanley. Within the different business functions the following roles exist for Analysts joining the program:
The initial training that you receive on starting the program Analysts joining Sales & Trading begin with a comprehensive, five-week training program that includes firmwide training with other Analysts from the Institutional Securities Group along with Sales & Trading product training. The program also includes extensive financial product and market knowledge training, product talks, and professional development classes, as well as financial accounting. All licensing and registration will generally occur during this period. You will have networking opportunities with peers and colleagues as well as frequent interaction with senior managers through information sessions and other organized events. Developing Your CareerWhat you can anticipate as you make progress and after completing the program Morgan Stanley is challenged and committed to developing our next generation of leaders. When an Analyst joins the firm, he/she becomes part of the team with an important role. As a result, many of our outstanding Analysts are asked to stay on and continue a career at Morgan Stanley. We believe in mentoring programs to support career growth. Analysts are assigned a mentor to help ease their transition from academia to the corporate environment. Mentors can provide career guidance, serve as a sounding board, and connect Analysts to the broader Morgan Stanley network. Mobility is an important part of building a Morgan Stanley career, and analysts are encouraged to consider opportunities globally. Additional training throughout the year is offered in order to enhance product knowledge as well as develop professional skills. We also encourage Analysts to take financial examinations, such as CFA and the GMAT, if they are interested in Graduate school. The Sales & Trading Analysts have formed a community service network in which they volunteer at various charitable organizations. Requirements Analysts need to have completed their undergraduate degree with an outstanding academic record and have an interest in the financial markets. The Sales & Trading Summer Analyst Program is 10 weeks long and offers a unique insight into a Wall Street firm. The Sales & Trading Program offers excellent networking opportunities. Summer Analysts are assigned a mentor to help them acclimate to the firm, and have daily exposure to senior management during information sessions and one-on-one meetings. Summer Analysts also attend numerous events, including outings with the various product areas, to help them get to know the Morgan Stanley professionals. The Summer Analyst Program in Sales & TradingHow the program works and the day-to-day experience you can expect The Sales & Trading Summer Analyst Program consists of classroom training, a desk placement, rotations, senior management speaker series, networking events, and a mid-summer review. Summer Analysts are placed in a specific role on a desk for the majority of the summer, allowing them to gain an in-depth understanding of the role that an Analyst can play within the division. To provide them with broad exposure to the diverse products and functions, Analysts also rotate to various desks within the Sales & Trading division. The week includes sessions on product training from Morgan Stanley professionals and technical training to ensure that the Summer Analysts are acclimated with the Morgan Stanley systems before starting on the desk. Developing Your CareerWhat you can anticipate as you make progress and after completing the program At the end of the summer, every exceptional Summer Analyst has the opportunity to receive a full-time offer. Each Summer Analyst receives a mid-summer and end-of-summer evaluation from both their manager and Human Resources.
