The Analyst Program in Sales & Trading
How the program works and the day-to-day experience you can expect

Morgan Stanley's Sales & Trading division has a two-year Analyst Program. Many of our outstanding Analysts are asked to stay on to continue a full career at Morgan Stanley.

Within the different business functions the following roles exist for Analysts joining the program:

  • Sales Develop their own client base and are responsible for developing long-term relationships, developing investment ideas, selling and cross-selling the firm's products, and for representing the firm with clients on important business issues
  • Trading Generate trading ideas and analysis, and support all aspects of the market making trade execution process, from providing research analytics on trades to relative value analysis
  • Structuring Build computational models to help issuers and investors optimize a transaction's economics and quantify sources of value and risk
  • Research All Analysts typically also spend time in Research to gain product knowledge and relative-value analytical skills, interacting with issuers, institutional investor clients, traders, salespeople and capital market professionals to develop and disseminate investment ideas
Launching Your Career
The initial training that you receive on starting the program

Analysts joining Asia Pacific Sales & Trading begin with a comprehensive training program to equip them with the skills, knowledge and tools to make an immediate contribution to the division. The curriculum features extensive financial product and market-knowledge training, product talks and professional development classes, bond math, and credit modeling.

In addition to classroom training, you receive on-the-job coaching and feedback throughout the program.

You will have networking opportunities with peers and colleagues as well as frequent interaction with senior managers through information sessions and other organized events.

Developing Your Career
What you can anticipate as you make progress and after completing the program

Morgan Stanley is committed to developing our next generation of leaders, so when an Analyst joins the firm, he or she becomes part of the team with an important role. As a result, many of our outstanding Analysts are asked to stay on and continue their careers at Morgan Stanley.

We believe in mentoring programs to support career growth. Analysts are assigned a mentor to help ease their transition from academia to the corporate environment. Mentors can provide career guidance, serve as a sounding board, and connect Analysts to the broader Morgan Stanley network.

Additional training throughout the year enhances product knowledge as well as developing professional skills. We also support Analysts taking financial examinations, such as CFA and the GMAT if they are interested in graduate school.

Requirements

Analysts must have completed their undergraduate degree with an outstanding academic record and have an interest in the financial markets.

Fluency in English and an Asian language is a definite plus.

Selection Process

Candidates are encouraged to attend various Morgan Stanley Sales & Trading pre-interview events, career fairs, and/or presentations. Selected applicants will be invited to interview both on campus and in our offices.

The Summer Analyst Program in Sales & Trading
How the program works and the day-to-day experience you can expect

Morgan Stanley’s Fixed Income division offers a wide range of products and services to clients situated all across the globe. The division’s sales and trading teams for commodities, credit, interest rate and currency products are organized by geographical regions, allowing each analyst to develop a sound understanding of a wide scope of products. As a Summer Analyst, you will have an opportunity to experience the full range of structured products with the use of analytical tools. The structure of the Summer Program allows Summer Analysts to work closely with the more senior salespeople, traders, research teams and other Morgan Stanley Fixed Income divisions all around the world.

Summer Analysts are offered the unique opportunity to develop and leverage both their quantitative and analytical skills as well as their interpersonal and communication skills. As a Summer Analyst in the Fixed Income division you will be assigned to a product area where you will work closely with traders, salespeople, research and capital markets professionals.

The Consolidated Equity Division has six core markets in Asia Pacific – Hong Kong/China, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, India and Singapore – in which we have a fully integrated equity sales and trading business. In addition, we have the capacity to trade in the remaining markets comprising the region. Consolidated Equity in Asia Pacific is integrated into the global origination, distribution and trading of equity, equity-related, and equity derivatives business at Morgan Stanley. Our global distribution team members are responsible for all client relationship management as well as all product distribution. The Consolidated Equity Division (CED) in Asia Pacific consists of the following function teams:

Consolidated Equity Summer Analyst Program

  • Intensive 10 week program in Taiwan, commencing beginning of July 2008
  • The program is designed to provide a realistic view of consolidated equity by having Summer Analysts assume the functions of full-time Analysts.
  • You are typically assigned to a specific client coverage team or function area. You will contribute to the coverage process as salespersons, sales traders, traders or product innovation specialists.
  • You will receive continuing on-the-job training throughout the summer and benefit from working alongside experienced professionals on meaningful projects

We are currently looking for members of the Class of 2009 who possess:

  • Both oral and written fluency in English
  • Strong interest in finance

  • An outstanding academic record and an interest in the financial markets

Requirements

For the Summer Sales & Trading Analyst Program in Taiwan:

  • 3rd year Undergraduate or 1st year graduate students
  • You must graduate between December 2008 & July 2009 with outstanding academic background and a keen interest in the financial markets
  • You will possess both oral and written fluency in English and Mandarin
