Your Opportunity as an Associate in Private Wealth Management An overview of this program’s objectives and how you can benefit Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management is a fast growing department within Morgan Stanley Asia. You will work closely with PWM specialists to develop dynamic and flexible wealth management solutions for your clients. This involves mastering the various aspects of the wealth management process. How the program works and the day-to-day experience you can expect The Asia PWM Associate Program runs two to three years, depending on individual skill set. During that time, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience by working in one of our three groups: Sales Team, Investment Group, or Solutions Group. The roles and responsibilities vary by department but typically include: - Researching specific investment opportunities, such as analyzing an Initial Public Offering (IPO) memo
- Implementing an asset allocation model
- Researching market conditions and determining their impact on your portfolios
- Assisting Senior Portfolio Managers with research reports and quantitative analysis
- Discussing new investment themes and ideas at portfolio meetings
- Providing input for reviews and presentations
- Developing, monitoring, and enhancing existing spreadsheet and software models
Launching Your Career The initial training that you receive on starting the program This rigorous program consists of sessions designed to help you: - Build knowledge of the firm’s platform, products, and solutions
- Develop sales and client relationship skills
- Prepare for and obtain securities industry certification (U.S., Europe, and Asia: Series 7, 66, and 31; Asia only: Paper 1, 7, 8, and 9 registered with Securities and Futures Commission)
- Interact with PWM managers and Investment Representative mentors
- Network within PWM and across the firm
- Receive specialized coaching in interpersonal skills and aspects of the financial industry through external vendors
- Complete team and individual project work, including managing a portfolio, developing a business plan, pitching to mock clients, and generating viable prospects
Developing Your Career What you can anticipate as you make progress and after completing the program Once you have finished the two-year training program, you will have the skills necessary to begin building your private client base. Ongoing training is fostered through various programs sponsored by Morgan Stanley’s Learning and Development team, off-site seminars, and support from your Regional Manager and PWM specialist teams. In some instances, high performing Associates will be asked to join Senior Investment Representatives as Partners, or in some instances, as Senior Investment Representatives. Requirements In order to apply for the PWM Associate Program, you need to be on target to complete your MBA program by May/June 2009. Fluency in an Asian language, such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Thai, Tagalog, or Bahasa, is required. Selection Process Candidates are encouraged to attend various Morgan Stanley PWM pre-interview events on campus, career fairs, and/or presentations. The Program includes a balance of product classes, structured interaction with PWM senior managers and investment representative mentors, role-playing exercises, and both independent and team projects.
