Operations offer a range of opportunities to Analysts who are eager to demonstrate determination, curiosity, and an appetite for developing business solutions that will enable the firm to grow and achieve results for its clients. Analysts will gain a broad understanding of the financial services industry and the products and services we provide our clients.

Opportunities are available for you to work with colleagues in Sales & Trading, Investment Banking, Finance, and Technology to solve problems, respond to business issues, assist in risk management, and participate in firm-wide projects. You will gain in depth and breadth of experience with a high level of responsibility early in your career with Morgan Stanley.

 The Analyst Programme in Operations
How the programme works and the day-to-day experience you can expect

The Operations Analyst Programme provides business, technical, and professional knowledge. Analysts will be assigned to a department in either of the following functions:

  • Control Ensuring the appropriate metrics used to measure, capture and reduce operational risk and exposure.
  • Operational Typical responsibilities often include booking trades, confirmation and settlements of trades. Analysts are given exposure to traders, brokers, controllers and their counterparts at other banks to ensure trades are properly settled and to address any issues that may arise.
  • Project Challenges you to understand the front-to-back business processes for a given organisation to determine how enterprise reference data solutions will better their business processes in terms of efficiency, risk reduction or client profitability.

Launching Your Career
The initial training that you receive on starting the programme

The Analyst Programme begins in September with four weeks of intensive classroom-based and interactive learning that covers:

  • Industry, financial and product knowledge
  • Technical and system skills
  • Personal and professional development

You would also take the first module of the Investment Administration Qualification (IAQ) of the Securities Investment Institute (SII) to enhance your professional qualifications. In addition to the formal training, the Analyst Programme will also include an opportunity to hear from experienced professionals in the division, to participate in practical workshops, a structured mentor programme, and organised networking events, enabling Analysts to build a network of contacts throughout the division and the firm.

After the completion of your four-week training programme, we have created a supportive environment in which your training, coupled with on-the-job coaching, can enable you to make rapid progress and possibly take on considerable responsibilities early in your career with the firm.

Developing Your Career
What you can anticipate as you make progress and after completing the programme

The Operations Management team takes a keen interest in your progress as an Analyst. During the first two years of your career, we encourage you to further your professional qualifications. Analysts have the opportunity to complete the SII Investment Administration Qualification (IAQ), followed by the SII Diploma in Investment Operations. In addition to the professional qualifications, you will be provided with training in how to manage your career and how to develop key personal development skills.

Once you fully understand your role and have developed your skills within that role, our internal mobility programme, supported by relevant training and development and mentoring programmes, can help you take your career to the next level.

You are a high-calibre graduate with a minimum 2.1 or equivalent in any discipline.

 Asia Relocation Programme
How the programme works and the day-to-day experience you can expect

Asia Operations offers a unique opportunity for new Analyst hires that want to work in Asia. To qualify, you must be educated in Europe and bilingual in English and either Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.

You would be recruited in London, attend the four-week training programme with the other Analysts and work in London for 12 months. After this induction, you will be relocated to Asia to develop your career with Morgan Stanley in the chosen location.

The Asia Relocation Programme is currently placing Analysts in Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

 Summer Analyst Programme
How the programme works and the day-to-day experience you can expect

The Operations Summer Analyst Programme is a 10-week internship that would give you the opportunity to experience a career in the Financial Industry and the excitement of the markets by taking on the role of a full-time Analyst.

After your initial training covering industry, product, and division-specific knowledge, you will be placed into one of the division teams.

You will be assigned a mentor for the duration of your 10-week internship, who will be able to provide you with guidance and help you make the most of your time in Operations. You would also benefit from regular evaluations. It is also a crucial step in your career planning and future career success. Exceptional Summer Analysts may have the opportunity to receive a full-time Analyst offer within Operations upon graduation.

Requirements
You are a penultimate-year undergraduate from any degree discipline with excellent analytical and communication skills and a strong desire to learn about the finance industry.

 Operations Industrial Placement Programme

Alongside our Analyst and Summer Analyst Programmes, Operations offers a 48-week Industrial Placement Programme starting in July. The Industrial Placement Programme is for undergraduates who are completing a four-year degree, with a year out in industry as a requirement of their degree. The programme would provide you with an in-depth exposure to the finance industry and the atmosphere of the markets and help you make an informed choice about your future career.

Following an initial period of training and induction, you may be assigned to a specialist team where you would typically work alongside experienced professionals at all levels. Throughout the year you would continue to benefit from structured and on-the-job training coupled with advice and guidance from mentors and colleagues. Regular evaluations keep your learning and progress on track, and you will also have the opportunity to enjoy a series of specially organised learning and networking events.

Requirements
We accept undergraduates from any degree discipline in which a year in industry is part of their structured syllabus. Eligible candidates must be keen to begin a career within Operations and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.
