A DAY IN THE LIFE
I selected Global Capital Markets because…
I am passionate about corporate finance and financial markets. It gives the best of both
worlds by combining aspects of the Sales and Trading and Investment Banking
divisions.
As a Global Capital Markets Off-Cycle Intern…
it is important to have drive, an interest in finance, strong analytical
skills, creativity, and commercial awareness. You must also enjoy working with
numbers and in a team environment. I learned advanced Excel skills, how to use Bloomberg
and other information sources, and the work’s key underlying concepts.
I received thorough training and instruction so that I could quickly take on
tasks and be successful.
A typical day…
begins by catching up on market news, major events and new instruments issued
in the Financial Institutions Group; this is my team's specialty area. Throughout
the day I manage market update requests, case studies on recently issued instruments
and term sheets. I attend meetings ranging from strategic initiatives to various
execution topics. I also prepare pitch material or work in the execution phase
of a hybrid bond issuance. There is a steady stream of qualitative and quantitative
analysis for issues involving banks’ regulatory capital.
