A DAY IN THE LIFE
I chose to do my Industrial Placement at Morgan Stanley because…
I wanted to apply the academic skills I have acquired to real-life situations.
At Morgan Stanley I can learn from some of the industry’s top people.
I
selected Finance…
because I am interested in financial markets and studied banking and international
finance at my university.
To get the most out of an Industrial Placement, you should…
ask questions and get to know as many people as possible to build a network.
My role on the team was…
to conduct compliance checks on bespoke trades and to reconcile reporting system
variances. I performed the mark review on precious metals (including consensus submissions), calculated the mark review variances and summarized these to the desk. My role evolved over the course of the year and I eventually took charge of full-cycle processes.
A typical day…
involved gathering reports from various systems to use within a mark review,
preparing submission templates to consensus brokers, and reviewing broker quotes.
I managed system testing, developed procedures to ensure the mark review processes
and followed up with departmental queries.
The best part of my experience at Morgan Stanley…
was the people. Everyone was friendly and easy to get along with, and offered
developmental advice. I also enjoyed the fact that my work actually had a real
impact on the business.
