Market Risk

Analyst Program

A DAY IN THE LIFE

I chose to start my career in Financial Services because...
I enjoy following financial markets and I studied applied mathematics; mathematics pairs perfectly for modeling markets and securities.

I selected Market Risk...
because I'm interested in how a large financial institution develops and uses risk measures to understand market risks and to shape business decisions.

As a Market Risk Analyst...
you need to bring strong communication and quantitative skills, some background in Microsoft Office and programming, and a desire to learn. I learned on the job how to perform routine tasks and longer-term projects. Due to Market Risk's diversified teams, the nature of tasks and projects vary.

My role on the team is...
varied. I develop and maintain risk reports, create slides for senior management presentations, provide market and risk information to risk monitors and others in the firm, and complete other routine tasks.

A typical day...
doesn't exist. There are recurring daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly tasks, long-term projects, unexpected requests, meetings and much more.

The best part of my job is...
talking to senior level people about challenges and goals in Market Risk.

Many former Market Risk Analysts have gone on to...
monitor other desk-specific teams within Market Risk or across Risk Management.
