A DAY IN THE LIFE
I chose to do my Industrial Placement at Morgan Stanley because…
I wanted experience with a large, fast-paced global investment bank.
I selected Human Resources… because not only was it relevant to my degree, but I also liked that Morgan Stanley offered rotations through various areas of Human Resources. The rotation offered me a broad perspective and deeper understanding of Human Resources.
To get the most out of a Human Resources Industrial Placement, you
should…
make the most of all opportunities—the weekly HR informational sessions
and many available networking events allowed me to build on my knowledge and
broaden my network.
A typical day…
involved responding to inquiries about HR policies and helping managers appropriately handle various employee relations issues, taking into account best practices, legislative frameworks and commercial outcomes.
The best part of my job was…
interacting with so many people at different levels within Human Resources
and throughout the firm.
My role on the team was…
to act as a key point of contact for a client group, providing guidance and recommendations about firm policies and employee management. I helped coordinate disciplinary
measures, assisted with junior-level recruitment, and conducted on-boarding
meetings and exit interviews.
The best part of my experience at Morgan Stanley…
was that I experienced so many different areas of Human Resources, and through these experiences, I was able to identify the specific role that I want to pursue post-graduation. The professional
skills I built are invaluable, and I feel much more focused and prepared for
my final year at my university and my future career.
