Technology

Summer Analyst / Co-Op

A DAY IN THE LIFE

I chose to start my career in Financial Services because…
I was impressed that everyone I met had a strong technical background. I was also excited about the global training program and the opportunity to have actual responsibility and to work with innovative technology leaders. Interning at Morgan Stanley gave me access to top-of-the-line quantitative trading systems, software and security systems, as well as a fantastic client roster and great relationships.

I selected the Technology department because…
I could develop cutting-edge technologies used by thousands of end users. I played a part in go-to-market technologies by testing them for our technology industry partners, who then incorporated our team’s feedback pre-launch. I was excited to work with some of the world’s most talented technologists, and my background in Java and PHP gave me an “in” as a developer (developers have experience in at least one programming language). The team also included engineers and business analyst professionals who understand technology life cycles and can identify process improvements.

As a Technology Summer Analyst…
I worked on a real-world project that provided me first-hand experience as a technologist for a world-class financial firm. My internship required first-rate technical, analytic, problem solving and communication skills.

The best part of my job was…
building a professional network—beyond the daily experience, there were networking events specifically for the Summer Analysts and Co-ops. Also, I appreciated the immense knowledge gain that provided the foundation for my career. I learned how to handle challenging issues including: meeting client needs, designing, programming, testing the latest software, resolving hardware issues, and working on system outages. My internship launched my career.

Technology Summer Analysts and Co-ops can go on to…
become future senior leaders at the firm and within the industry via full-time jobs at Morgan Stanley. The knowledge and networks you build as a Summer Analyst or Co-op can advance your career exponentially.

The best part of my summer experience at Morgan Stanley was…
working on a project that would actually go to production. I was able to take responsibility for my own projects and contribute to the team. My manager gave me regular feedback and I also had an on-staff mentor with whom I could openly discuss questions and my experience.
