A DAY IN THE LIFE
I selected Investment Management because...
I was a political science major and am passionate about finance. I enjoy seeing
how the political landscape could affect the financial sector. I thrive when
handed complex issues that need quick tangible solutions in Investment Management,
which happens daily.
As an Investment Management Analyst...
being resourceful, articulate, analytical and a thoughtful listener are all
important qualities to have. I've learned the intricate details of statements,
how to build models from scratch and how to comprehensively analyze a deal
as it relates to political, macro or counterparty risk.
A typical day...
depends on your role. I work in the Merchant Banking sector, which is part
of the investing world, so I spend the morning catching up on emails and checking
overnight breaking news in the markets or my focus industries. Then I dive
into my current project, which might include evaluating investment bankers'
data and building a model to show where we would buy an asset. I usually meet
with my management team to review the analysis and develop a bid letter for
submission with a purchase price.
Many former Analysts have gone on to...
progress through the organization and take on more responsibility within the
team. There are also opportunities to work in other parts of MSIM, from Traditional
Asset Management to Real Estate Investing, Merchant Banking or one of the control
and support areas.
