Top Rankings for MSIM in P&I Money Manager AUM Survey

Morgan Stanley Investment Management took nine top-10 spots in Pensions & Investments annual Money Managers Directory.

 

Morgan Stanley Investment Management took nine top-10 spots in Pensions & Investments annual Money Managers Directory. The results reinforce MSIM's commitment to the institutional marketplace across a variety of asset classes and demonstrate that the Firm's high-quality products are finding traction with institutional clients.

Rankings of the top 300 money managers, as measured by worldwide institutional assets under management, headlined the directory. MSIM ranked as the 19th largest asset manager in the world, up from 24th in 2004, with AUM up 55 percent since last year's listing.

The directory also measured U.S. institutional tax-exempt assets under management, domiciled both in the U.S and abroad, as of the end of 2004. P&I ranked firms according to this AUM figure for a number of different categories. MSIM's top-10 categories included:

  • #2 manager of active international securities
  • #2 manager of active emerging markets securities
  • #3 manager of real estate equity
  • #3 manager of real estate investment trusts
  • #7 manager of hedge fund strategies (measured in gross assets)
  • #10 in active domestic small cap growth equity
  • #10 in mortgages
  • #10 in U.S. client assets
  • #10 in total worldwide assets (including retail)
In addition to the top-10 rankings, MSIM ranked 14th in total U.S. institutional tax-exempt assets, up from 21st in 2004, thanks to AUM growth of 55 percent, versus 14 percent growth among the top 100 managers in this category.
