Morgan Stanley Takes Top Spot in Global Investor FX Survey

Morgan Stanley's Foreign Exchange (FX) group maintained the top overall ranking in Global Investor's 2005 Foreign Exchange Survey.

Morgan Stanley's Foreign Exchange (FX) group maintained the top overall ranking in Global Investor's 2005 Foreign Exchange Survey. The Euromoney publication surveyed investment management, insurance and pension managers around the world in categories ranging from technical analysis research to FX strategy. Investors ranked Morgan Stanley first in 11 categories.

With the major currency markets going sideways for much of 2004, investors looked for differentiated service for their trading needs. Global Investor editors highlighted extra steps firms are taking for their clients to gain advantages over simple trend watching: "Competition has intensified not just because more managers are now active in the market - the type of research generated by brokers has also improved, taking away some of the information advantage that the more specialist currency managers could use."

The survey results reflected Morgan Stanley's edge in research with the Firm capturing the top spots in developed markets, technical analysis and economic research.

The survey took a different approach to its methodology, splitting out each category into two rankings. Ranking 1 weighed each vote according to excellence. Ranking 2 weighed votes with the intent to reward consistency. The banks who faired well in Ranking 2 were typically the custodians who had a number of captive clients.
