MSIM took seven top-five spots in Pensions & Investments' annual Money Managers Directory and Global/International Managers rankings. The directory measured U.S. institutional tax-exempt assets under management, domiciled both in the U.S and abroad, and ranked firms according to this AUM figure for a number of different categories. MSIM's top-five categories included:

• number-two manager of active international securities
• number-two manager of active emerging markets securities
• number-four manager of mutual fund assets
• number-four manager of real estate investment trusts
• number-four manager of hedge fund strategies (measured in gross assets)
• number-four manager of international accounts
• number-five manager of combined international/global accounts
