Institutional Investor All-Europe Research Team Poll 2001

Morgan Stanley's European Equity Research Team has been ranked #5 in the 2001 Institutional Investor All-Europe Research Team Poll and #3 for Pan-Europe Sector Research, with just two positions separating us and CSFB, who placed first.

Commenting on the results, Jack Mueller, Head of European Equity Research, said, "Our rankings reflect a difficult year for markets and for the department as well, given significant personnel changes after four years of continuity. The results are clearly not where Morgan Stanley belongs. However, as a department, we share a collective sense of optimism given the resultant strong teams and the resolve of our individuals. We congratulate everyone on their rankings this year and look forward to next year's results."

Highlights are as follows:

Autos Greg Melich and Team #1 for the first time
Beverages Alexandra Oldroyd and Team Ranked in both the Pan Europe and the UK Sector polls
Food and Household/Personal Care Products Sylvain Massot and Team #1 once again in the former and also ranked #2 in the latter, which was a newly created category
Internet Michael Steib and Team (including Sarah Simon) Debuted in the poll at #1 in this newly created category
Luxury Goods Claire Kent and Team #1 in this sector for the sixth year in a row
Metals and Mining Jeremy Gray and Team Solid move up to #2 and now taking on the Building category as well
Technology/Hardware and Telecommunications Equipment Angela Dean and Team #2 and #3 in these categories
Technology/Semiconductors Stuart Adrian and Team Debuted in the poll as a runner-up in this new category
Telecommunications/Wireless Paul Brilliant and Damon Guirdham Also debuted in the poll as a runner-up in another new category
Tobacco Michael Smith and Team Repeated at #1

Macro:
Out of six categories, Morgan Stanley captured four firsts, one third and a runner-up. The #1 rankings were:


Economics/Developed European Markets Eric Chaney, Joachim Fels and Team Repeated at #1
Equity Strategy/Developed European Markets Richard Davidson and Team #1 for the third year in a row
Convertibles Colum McCoole and Team Repeated at #1
Quantitative Research Yazid Sharaiha and Team #1 up from #2 last year
