  • Best Bank for Online Equity Trading
  • Best Site for Structured Finance
This is the second year running that the Firm has won best sites for Online Equities, Equity Research and Equity Trading.

On their site, euromoney.com comments on Morgan Stanley's performance:

"Morgan Stanley has some of the best sites in any area...More generally, the bank's sites are particularly strong in equities, where it demonstrates much tighter cohesion between the Web and the business than many other firms. The bank also does a good job of tracking what clients want, as well as finding out how the Web can help its own staff. As in 2000, Morgan Stanley does not just concentrate on the mainstream Web services. It does well to serve niches such as ABS and even commodities, which is an area that is often overlooked."

Best Bank for Online Equities:

Euromoney awarded Morgan Stanley the overall equities award for having the best overall strategy and implementation across products, and for our corresponding Web offerings. They were most impressed by the fact that the Firm had used technology to complement our traditional focus on customer service and that, rather than building a standalone suite of technology offerings, we had instead woven technology into the fabric of our customer-driven businesses.

"Banks that know where to concentrate their efforts, where to collaborate with competitors and what to leave well alone are the ones with the clearest and best online equity strategy. One such bank is Morgan Stanley, the 2001 winner of the best bank for online equities. Not only does the bank have the best range of online equity products, but it has beaten the competition to win almost all of the available equity internet awards."

Best Site for Equity Research:

"Morgan Stanley wins this award for the second year running because it still has the most comprehensive collection of useful functionalities on its equity research website, Research Link. Morgan Stanley's tools are not unique, but it manages to combine the important functionalities well at the same time as paying attention to the details...Research Link is also impressive because of its intelligent use of webcasts."

Best Site for New Equity Issues:

"Morgan Stanley has put a lot of energy over the last year into servicing the issuers...The beauty of Morgan Stanley's approach is that it takes into consideration that during [the roadshow] period, the senior management at the issuing firm is unlikely to have a great deal of access to the Internet. The bank has therefore created wireless applications of its issuer offering which are accessible through i-Paq hand-held computers...It is clear that the issuers are deriving a lot of use out of the platform."

Best Site For Equity Trading:

"Morgan Stanley, the winner of the award in 2001 as in 2000, has built a platform whose primary strength is its flexibility. TradeXL...covers the entire trading process. Says a trader for a fund management firm in New York: 'We have fully integrated TradeXL into our systems here because it can be used for risk management and that is an enormous plus for us.'...Other nice functionalities on the system are the ability to see the depth of the liquidity in the markets both numerically and graphically, and the ability to track volume weighted average price (Vwap)"

Best Site for Structured Finance:

"Most banks have some form of structured finance research on their websites...But only a handful also provide tools and analytics expressly for the securitization market, and of these sites, Morgan Stanley's is the best. Morgan Stanley is already very good at making its research accessible online. It has one of the bigger research teams in the securitization market, and the quality of the research is respected. But the bank also has analytics instruments designed specifically for different sectors of the market."
