Morgan Stanley has been ranked the number one advisor with a transaction volume of US$29.611MM by The Daily Deal in the publication's June 16, 2000 ranking of the top M&A advisors for Latin America between May 1999 and April 2000. The article identified the top 25 M&A deals, in the region for that period.
In addition to the number one ranking, Morgan Stanley was involved in seven out of the top ten transactions and 15 out of the top 25 deals, evidencing strength across most sectors and leadership in certain key industries (e.g., telecoms where Morgan Stanley was involved in all of the key transactions).
Morgan Stanley has been involved in most landmark transactions that have been reshaping the Latin American business environment, such as:
Institutional Investor All-Asia Research Team (Japan) by Firm
- Telefónica US$21Bn exchange offers for Telesp, Tele Sudeste, Telefónica de Argentina and Telefónica de Peru
- AES's successful takeover of Electricidad de Caracas
- BBVA's successful defense of the merger agreement between BBV Probursa and Bancomer in Mexico that was challenged by Banacci's hostile takeover attempt
- Brahma and Antartica merger to create Ambev in Brazil
- The restructuring of Telefónica's Telesp through three successive mergers
- Bestfoods acquisition of Arisco in Brazil
The Latin American M&A market is rapidly evolving into greater sophistication. In this highly challenging environment Morgan Stanley has led highly visible and complicated executions including the first regional multi-company multi-jurisdiction (Latin American, U.S. and European) exchange offer for shares of a non-Latin American company, and the only two hostile transactions to date.
This highlights Morgan Stanley's M&A local execution capabilities in the region as well as the Firm's unique qualifications to continue helping its clients worldwide to accomplish their business objectives in Latin America.
