In Reuters' recently published, fourth annual U.S. Larger Company Investment Research, Sales and Trading, and Investment Banking Survey, Morgan Stanley had 54 top-ranked analysts (1–3) by industry sector — as determined by fund managers and corporations. Separately, the Reuters poll also surveys fund managers for the Top-10 research teams. Morgan Stanley was one of only two firms that had multiple teams on this list — Morgan Stanley's Computers (Software) team (ranked #2), and the Media (Broadcasting/Cable/Entertainment) team (ranked #4).

Tempest Consultants conducts the poll for Reuters, by surveying both the CIOs/Directors of Research for the top 150 institutional managers of active U.S. equity funds and the CFOs/IR departments of the top 500 U.S. corporations with market capitalization in excess of $3 billion. They received responses from 109 institutional management groups, representing an estimated 74% of the active institutional funds invested in U.S. equities, and from 368 of the corporations — representing 84% of the overall market capitalization of that universe.
