Morgan Stanley produced a repeat performance of its success in the recent Nikkei poll with a #2 ranking in the Japanese Institutional Investor survey, another record for the department. Our total positions increased by three to 19 compared to 23 for Nomura, 17 for Merrill Lynch, 12 for Goldman Sachs and 11 for Nikko Salomon Smith Barney.
On a weighted basis, Morgan Stanley also ranked #2 with a total score of 48 vis-à-vis 66 for Nomura and 40 for Merrill Lynch. Our total positions comprise of six top-ranked analysts (versus four in 1998), four second-ranked (versus six), three third-ranked (versus none) and six runners-up (versus six). Robert Alan Feldman (Economics) and Fumiyuki Takahashi (Quantitative Research) rose to #1 from #2, while Toshihiko Ginbayashi (Chemicals), Toru Nagai (Metals), Mitsuko Morita (Computer Software) and Takatoshi Yamamoto (Consumer Electronics) maintained their #1 positions. Newly ranked analysts include Yukiko Ohara (Banks), Hideyasu Ban (Other Financials), Hironori Tanaka (Broadcasting), Taizo Demura (Food and Beverages) and Keiko Otsuki (Real Estate and Housing).
