According to the Wall Street Journal All-Star Analysts Survey, Morgan Stanley captured 28 spots, finishing in fourth place overall with two more spots than last year. The seventh-annual survey measures stock-picking and estimate earnings accuracy of analysts in 55 industry groups, based on their 1998 performance. Of the 28 positions Morgan Stanley earned, 17 were for earning estimates and 11 awards were for stock picking. The 17 earnings estimates positions ranked Morgan Stanley number three.
