Reuters recently published its second annual U.S. Larger Company Investment Research, Sales and Trading Survey. Tempest Consultants, a subsidiary of Reuters, targeted the S&P 500 constituents and the fund managers who are the largest 100 holders in order to obtain feedback regarding the sell-side's top industry performers. The respondents consisted of 70% of the $8.2 trillion equity market value of the S&P 500 companies and approximately 65% of the estimated $4.6 trillion institutional funds investing in that same group.
Fund managers ranked Morgan Stanley #1 in overall research, and corporations ranked Morgan Stanley #3 in overall research. In addition to these two overall categories, Reuters has four other broad (i.e., not industry-specific) sell-side awards. Morgan Stanley was one of only two firms to receive two of these six awards, again underscoring the quality of Morgan Stanley research. Our second award, the Street's "Top Team," was taken by Morgan Stanley Computer Software & Services analysts, specifically recognizing Mary Meeker, Chuck Phillips, Dave Togut and team.
Another section of the poll highlights the "Top 20 Analysts" on the Street (regardless of industry) according to fund managers and corporations. Jennifer P. Murphy (#2 in both) and Steve Girsky (#13 in both) were consistently recognized by both fund managers and corporations, and Chuck Phillips (#6), Andrew Conway (#8), Kit Konolige (#14) and Michael Blumstein (#16) were well-recognized by fund managers as well.
Congratulations also to the analysts listed below who ranked #1 in their field or ranked in the top 10 for the first time.
