The results of the Global Investor/Euromoney 1998 European Brokers Survey have recently been published. As in previous years, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter achieved a very
strong result.
Euromoney polled European
equity fund managers and asked them to nominate their three preferred
brokerage houses providing equity research and execution in individual
countries and industry sectors. Respondents also nominated leading
strategists and analysts in the region. However, a number of
changes to the methodology of sector voting took place between
1997 and 1998, which impacted the Morgan Stanley result (e.g., the blending
of textiles with pulp and paper; and construction with engineering).
A number of sectors and rankings were excluded because of small
sample size.
