Institutional Investor's 1997 Deals of the Year Awards

II's January 1998 issue recounted 1997's Deals of the Year. Morgan Stanley received M&A Deal of the Year Awards for three different transactions: then-Morgan Stanley's self-advising in its $10.5 billion merger with then-Dean Witter, Discover & Co.; Nationbank's $15.5 billion acquisition of Barnett Banks; and Norfolk Southern Corp. and CSX Corp.'s $13 billion (including debt) acquisition of Conrail.

It also received a International Deal of the Year mention for its role as advisor to Credite du Suez in its merger with Lyonnaise Des Eaux.
