Morgan Stanley rose on the list of dream employers for business school students - breaking into the top 10 for the first time on Fortune's list of the 100 Most Desirable MBA Employers. The Firm ranked ninth, up 16 spots from last year. Morgan Stanley appeared on 8.6 percent of students' lists of most desirable employers.
The "popularity contest for companies" also recorded financial services as the most desirable industry for students. Financial services appeared on 25 percent of survey responses, up from 11 percent last year. With the rise in interest in the industry, competition for the most qualified recruits has also surged. A recent report by Reuters cited a financial services recruiter who observed, "competition for MBA grads was 'much more intense' this year than in 2004."
"In this recruiting environment, [students] have options, and they're taking advantage of them," Fortune wrote. For students' job searches, graduates have added factors such as corporate culture, a clear path for advancement and work-life balance to the usual expectations about compensation and roles.
Fortune surveyed 4,713 students at 50 top business schools in the U.S. Respondents chose the five companies they would most like to work for from a list of 157 companies.
