Morgan Stanley Takes Top Rank Among Investment Banks in FT's '50 Best Workplaces in the UK'

Morgan Stanley was again top investment bank and 25th overall in the Financial Times's "50 Best Workplaces in the UK 2005."

Morgan Stanley was again top investment bank and 25th overall in the Financial Times's "50 Best Workplaces in the UK 2005," climbing 11 places from its 2004 position of 36.

The Financial Times commended Morgan Stanley for a number of specific efforts: its gender program facilitation of internal mobility, the Firmwide quiz nights in London and language tuition. The FT also singled out the Firm's Work-Life balance initiative, with employee feedback highlighting the benefits of the Firm's approach.

In the same report, Morgan Stanley Italy was featured in the "100 Best Workplaces in the EU 2005," with the Firm commended for "impartiality and justice in the workplace assured through a detailed performance evaluation process."

At the recent ceremony in Copenhagen to celebrate the European awards, Morgan Stanley Italy was also one of three companies to be shortlisted for a special Fairness award due to the results of an employee survey and the Firm's policies to ensure fairness in its working relationships. Awards were presented by Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, President of the Party of the European Socialists, Member of the European Parliament and former Prime Minister of Denmark.

The accolades follow Morgan Stanley Italy's sixth-place ranking in Italy's 2005 Great Place to Work survey and Morgan Stanley Germany's 35th-place ranking in the 2005 Great Place to Work in Germany survey both earlier this year.

The rankings are determined using the same selection methodology applied to 25 countries in more than 30 lists produced by the Great Place to Work Institute. These include the "100 Best Companies to Work For in America," as published in Fortune magazine, best workplaces lists for the European and Latin American regions lists for individual countries throughout Europe, Latin America and Asia.

Survey methodology involved sampling 250 Firm employees at random, with questions assessing trust, management competence, recognition of personal and professional worth, sharing of opportunities and rewards, pride in the job, and camaraderie. The rankings are based two-thirds on responses to the FT's employee survey and one-third on workplace culture.
