During a year of economic uncertainty, Morgan Stanley employees continued to give back by donating blood during onsite blood drives throughout 2008. On January 22, the Firm was recognized by the New York Blood Center for collecting more than 2,500 employee donations and having the largest increase in donations for the financial services sector in 2008.
Morgan Stanley employees surpassed the Firm's 2008 goal of collecting 2,400 pints and saw an overall increase of more than 700 pints, or 40 percent, from 2007. Morgan Stanley ranked third among financial-services-firm contributions in 2008, following MetLife and the Bank of New York Mellon.
Several innovative changes to the Blood Drive led to an uptick in donations this year. The Firm hosted five blood drives throughout the year, adding a drive during the Firm's annual Global Volunteer Month held in June. Additionally, the Firm started a Blood Captain Program and continued to reward repeat donors with gifts, including Starbucks and Target gift cards.
The Firm's 2009 goal is to increase donations by five percent, an increase of more than 125 donations.
In conjunction with the Firm's Global Volunteer Month in June, Morgan Stanley London kicked off its Blood Drive. To date more than 350 London employees have donated blood with the potential to provide blood to 1000 patients.
